ACH Payment Updates

New Updates to Customer Balances
Starting November 13, 2008, M&T Bank will provide more up-to-date information on Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments scheduled to post to customers' accounts.

Currently, we update account balances to reflect ACH payments once each business day, by 8am ET. Starting in mid November, you will see updated ACH payment information* three additional times during the day, at 10am, 12:00pm and 3:30pm EST. The additional updates to ACH payment information will give you more accurate available balance information during the day.

All ACH credits and debits will continue to post to your accounts each night as they do today, regardless of being included in the new updated account balances throughout the day.

* NOTE: Retail Accounts and Controlled Disbursement accounts will only reflect additional payment information for ACH credits, not debits, during the day.

How This May Affect You
You may be affected differently depending on the types of products or channels you use:

Business Banking Clients
The periodic ACH updates will be reported on Web Banking for Business, reflected in the presented available balance. Only funds reflected in the updated available balance will be accessible for real-time loan payments, account transfers or bill pay transactions.

Commercial Clients
Commercial clients who subscribe to ACH Intraday Summary and Detail Reporting will see additional ACH payment detail presented within our balance reporting platform, Web InfoPLU$. Customers not subscribing to ACH Intraday Reporting won't see the additional payment detail, however their available account balances will update more frequently. Only funds reflected in the updated available balance will be accessible for real-time transactions, such as book transfers or wire payments.

Retail Customers
ACH credits will be reported on Web Banking more frequently, making funds available to the customer earlier in the day. ACH transactions that debit a retail customer's account will continue to be reported once a day as they are today.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How will my balances be affected by the memo-posted ACH debits during
the day?
Because ACH debits will post to your account more frequently, you may see a reduced available balance. It is important to note that this figure is a more accurate depiction of your daily cash position. The increased frequency of the ACH postings will provide you with a more accurate available balance during the day. This increased accuracy should aid in your funding decisions for the day and reduce the chance of overdrawing your account.

Will all types of accounts show the new memo-posted ACH transactions?
Retail customer accounts, and Controlled Disbursement accounts will only reflect additional memo-posted ACH credit transactions. All other account types will show the new information for both credit and debit ACH transactions. Keep in mind, all ACH credits and debits will continue to post to your accounts each night, regardless of being included in the new account balance updates throughout the day.

What types of transactions could these additional ACH payment updates affect?
Any real-time transactions, such as web bill payments, wire payments and account or book transfers, will be subject to the newly updated available balance.

What are some examples of transactions that would result in these more frequent ACH payment updates?
Any automatic ACH debits presented during the day and scheduled to settle overnight, such as preauthorized supplier, vendor, loan payments, or payroll settlement, may be reflected in the newly updated available balance. Any incoming ACH credits, such as Accounts Receivable collections, may also be reflected in the newly updated available balance.
