A new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) mandate requires you to supply M&T Bank with additional information.
Background - To comply with recent changes to the Internal Revenue Code, all businesses that accept card payments must provide accurate taxpayer identification number (TIN) and the corresponding IRS filing name.
What happens if you do not provide updated information? - If the data on file with M&T Bank does not match IRS records, M&T Bank will be required to institute backup withholding based on the total dollar amount of reportable payment transactions at the prevailing rate. Once your information is updated, you will only be able to recoup the withheld funds when you file your federal tax return for the applicable tax the following year. M&T Bank is unable to refund withheld amounts to you.
Confirmation - After you have submitted your updated TIN and filing name, M&T Bank will contact you if we find the information is still incorrect.
To provide your updated information, please click the link below and complete the electronic form. Please have your letter on hand as you will be required to supply the unique Communication ID for your merchant location(s).
