What is Verified by Visa?
Verified by Visa is a secure service developed by M&T Bank and Visa to help ensure that only you can use your M&T Debit Card to shop online.

Who can register for Verified by Visa?
Anyone with an M&T Debit Card. The M&T Debit Card for Business is not eligible to participate this time.

What is the benefit for consumers?
It provides added assurance when using your M&T Debit Card to make purchases online. You can be comfortable that any online merchant using the Verified by Visa security system is a legitimate commercial entity.

Is my personal information safe and secure?
Yes. Your information is transmitted using the highest level of encryption.

Does Verified by Visa cost me anything?
No. Verified by Visa is offered to you free of charge.

Questions About Shopping with Verified by Visa

How do I shop with Verified by Visa?
Once you've registered, your M&T Debit Card will automatically be recognized at any merchant participating in Verified by Visa.

Where can I shop using Verified by Visa?
At all Verified by Visa participating merchants.

I forgot my password. What can I do?
If you forget your password, it is easy to create a new one. In the Verified by Visa window, there is a link just below where you enter your password that says "Forgot Your Password". If you click this link, you will be asked to re-authenticate yourself by entering in your card details. You will then be able to choose a new password.

You can also re-register your card to create a new password. Since you are authenticated when you register, you can be sure that only you can choose your Verified by Visa password.

Remember, like your ATM PIN, keep your Verified by Visa password secure and do not share it with anyone.

I am not an Internet expert. How easy is Verified by Visa to use?
Verified by Visa is so easy to use, you'll barely know it's there. Once you complete the registration process by verifying your identity, you can shop!

Can I use Verified by Visa from a different computer than the one where I signed up?
Yes, you can make purchases at any computer.

What happens when I finish shopping?
When you are finished shopping, proceed to your merchant's checkout page. As the transaction is completed, you will be asked to enter your personal password. Should you forget your password, simply click the link below the password entry field and you can re-create your password by answering a few simple questions.

Questions About Registration

How do I register for Verified by Visa?
To register now, simply click here. You may also register on Visa's website at www.visa.com/verified, or during the checkout process at any participating merchant. It's an easy process, and takes only a minute.

Can I choose not to register?
When you shop on a participating merchant's website using your M&T Debit Card and are not registered, you will be prompted to register before the purchase is completed. You have the option to register later if you so choose, however you can only defer registration four times, and must register after that. Keep in mind on websites that are NOT participating in Verified by Visa, your card will continue to work as usual.

What do I need to register?
To register you will need to have your M&T Debit Card in front of you, and have your PIN ready.

Why do you ask for my PIN during registration?
We are safeguarding the use of M&T Debit Cards by their rightful owners. We must make sure that the owners of M&T Debit Card accounts are the ones actually using it. Keep in mind that no personal information, including your PIN, is ever shared with anyone else.

Can I update my registration information?
Yes, and you are encouraged to update and maintain your account information. You can customize your Personal Assurance Message, giving you extra confidence that the Verified by Visa window you see during the purchase process is indeed genuine.

You can also change your password if you so choose.

What is a Personal Assurance Message?
The Personal Assurance Message is created by you during the registration process, and will be displayed back to you when you are prompted for your password during Verified by Visa password verification at checkout. The Personal Assurance Message was designed to reduce the risk of fraudulent merchants presenting false credentials to unknowing Internet users in order to gain access to personal financial information. So when the Verified by Visa password window prompt includes your Personal Assurance Message, that gives you more assurance that it is actually Verified by Visa asking you for your password, and not someone else masquerading as Verified by Visa.

What should I do If I lose my card or it is stolen?
If your card is lost or stolen, you should immediately call the M&T Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-1552, or stop into a branch to report the incident. Once your new card number is received, you will need to register your new card for Verified by Visa.
